Splenic Infarction Following Thyroidectomy: An Unusual Case in the Emergency Department

Splenic infarction is a rare diagnosis in the emergency department and can easily mimic other causes of acute abdomen. Cardioembolic hematological disorders, inflammatory (eg pancreatitis) infectious sepsis) conditions, postoperative malignant neoplasms atherosclerosis are some risk factors. Papillary thyroid carcinoma most common histologic type differentiated malignancy known as least aggressive carcinoma. A 46-year-old male patient was admitted to with complaint abdominal pain for five day. When patient's anamnesis deepened, it learned that had been operated on 5 days before papillary cancer, started day after surgery, showed an increasing decreasing course. Contrast-enhanced CT performed revealed perfusion defects posterior lateral parts spleen. The splenic should also be kept mind patients presenting left upper quadrant pain, especially who have recently undergone surgical operation, previous history thrombotic vascular disease, any malignancy.
